DOVER - Cynthia Jane (Gray) Schucker, of Dover, was killed in a car accident on Friday, June 13, 2008. She died instantly.
Jane, "Grandma Jane," "Gram Moo" or just "Moo," will be missed by a host of family and friends.
She would have celebrated the 35th anniversary of her 39th birthday in August of 2008.
Jane was born and raised in Clearfield, Pa.
After graduating from Clearfield High School she joined Bell Telephone as an operator.
In 1956, she married Robert Schucker.
In 1962, the family moved to Denton, Md., with children, Foster, David and Cynette (Sami).
Jane was an active volunteer with both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
In 1973, the Schuckers moved to Dover, and Jane joined the JCPenney Co., from which she retired. She kept in contact with all of her "second family."
Jane was a loving and dedicated person and was cherished by her family.
She maintained a wide circle of friends, both lifelong and recent, whom she embraced as family.
Jane's faith was important to her and evident in her life
She joined in Christian fellowship at the Wyoming Methodist Church, and the New Church of Dover.
Jane was well known in the community for her volunteer efforts.
She was a frequent blood donor for the Red Cross, and an active volunteer with the Salvation Army, her favorite charity.
She volunteered at the Salvation Army's food kitchen and helped with the organization's finances.
Jane shared the Salvation Army's principle of caring for others while nurturing their underlying spirit.
She was dedicated to teaching both children and adults to read.
One of her proudest moments was listening to an adult student reading a story to their child. She actively enrolled friends to be reading mentors.
Jane was also very active with the elderly. She often visited retirement homes and encouraged many of her friends to stay active.
Jane was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Gray; father, George Gray; and her sister, Gloria Gray Kerr of Clearfield, Pa. She was the granddaughter of Ferdinand Shakespeare and Carrie Evedale Nevling, and James Wilber and Elizabeth Forsyth Gray.
She is survived by her children, Foster Schucker (Susan Wilson) of Exton, Pa., Cynette (Tom) Cavaliere of Penfield, N.Y., and David (Debbie) Schucker of Delaware; by her brothers, Gordon (Jean) Gray of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Gerald (Edna) Gray of Minneapolis; a brother-in-law, Richard Kerr of Clearfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Heather Schucker, Michael Schucker, Jennifer Schucker, Pamela Jane Schucker, Tommy Cavaliere, Victoria Jane Cavaliere, Tim Schucker; by Susan's children, Dave and Jesse Wilson; and by her former husband, Robert Schucker, of Clearfield, Pa.
Services are planned for Dover, and pending for Clearfield, Pa.
Because Dover Convention Center is not completed, services will be held at Trader Funeral Home.
A short service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, with friends and family visitation from 5-7 p.m.
E-mail remembrances, that may be read at the service, should be sent to granjane@schucker.org.
Instead of flowers, Jane's family asks that you volunteer to ring the bell for an hour during the next Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign at Christmas; and/or make a contribution to the Salvation Army, 611 Forest St., Dover, DE 19904.
