Cornelius S. Stephens

Cornelius S. Stephens, 78 GEORGETOWN - Cornelius S. Stephens, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., and Md., before moving to Georgetown, died of a brain tumor in his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008. He was 78. He retired as a physical education teacher and Greyhound bus driver. He enjoyed traveling, singing in the choir at Grace United Methodist Church, Georgetown, as well as the Cheerful Notes Glee Club of Georgetown. He enjoyed taking pictures, making posters and cards, as well as creating layouts for his model trains. Mr. Stephens was a member of the Delaware Seaside Railroad Club, Inc. and treasurer of PASR - Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Mr. Stephens was a U. S. Army Veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Emma Lee (Cox) Stephens; one brother, John Ralph Stephens and one sister, Ersula Stephens Moore. He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Edith (Williams) Stephens; three daughters, Adell Jenkins, of Philadelphia Pa., Ivetta Stephens of Wilmington, Celeste Harris and her husband Charles of Dover; a brother, Harold Stephens and his wife Mary of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one brother-in-law, Howard Williams Jr. of Durham, N.C., five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and the family dog "Friskey." A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, in Grace United Methodist Church, E Market Street, Georgetown, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King Street, Georgetown. Arrangement by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
