In the early morning hours of Monday, June 18th, 2018, our most cherished, Connie Fama Bowden was called to her eternal rest.
The youngest of eight children, Mary Constance Fama was born on Aug. 1, 1934,at Mabscott. The daughter of Sicilian immigrants, who came from the town of Fiumedinis, "Connie" as she was affectionately known all her life, was the daughter of Phillip and Nancy Sparacino Fama. Along with parents, brothers, Patsy, Andy and George as well as an infant brother and sister have preceded her in death. She is the fond sister of Rosa Fama Shucet and Tony Fama who survive. There is a large extended family of nieces and nephews that Connie held in high regard.
The Fama family worshiped at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where Connie has faithfully attended mass her entire life.
Connie spent her childhood at Mabscott, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. On the 4th of July, 1959, Connie married the love of her life, a Greenbrier county native, Roy Thomas Bowden. They were devoted to each other. Roy, a man of entrepreneurial spirit was supported unconditionally throughout his career with Connie always by his side. On November 9th, 2013, after a very brief illness, Roy passed away. Connie never seemed to recover from this great loss. So now, this coming 4th of July, Connie and Roy will be celebrating together in Heaven, 59 years of marriage, "Oh Glad Reunion."
Connie and Roy were blessed with three children, Susan, Roy Thomas III and Belinda. They will forever cherish their memory.
Suzie is married to John Berry, they reside in Milford, Del., Dr. R. Thomas Bowden III is married to Leisa Kay, they make their home in Nitro, Belinda is married to Dr. Jeff Harvey, they live in Beckley.
Connie loved her grandchildren and looked forward to attending their events and activities. She was the doting grandmother of Michael Berry (Holly), Bethany Berry, Philip Berry, Nick Bowden, Chris Bowden, Sarah Harvey, Vince Harvey and Ginny Harvey; she was the proud great-grandmother of Norah Berry.
Family was everything to Connie. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker of pasta, breads and cakes. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 12 noon in St. Francis de Sales Church, 614 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley. The Very Rev. Fr. Paul Wharton will be the celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family is receiving friends at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. The honor of carrying Connie has been given to Michael Berry, Philip Berry, Nick Bowden, Chris Bowden, Vince Harvey and Vince McDowell.
The family suggests donations of sympathy can be made to: St. Francis de Sales Church, 614 South Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801 or Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802
So now we must say goodbye to this most gracious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, "To yesterday's companionship and tomorrow's reunion."
