Retired Delaware State Trooper Clyde Jesse Whalen Jr., 60

CAMDEN-WYOMING - Retired Delaware State Trooper Clyde Jesse Whalen Jr. of Camden-Wyoming died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 60.

Born in Wilmington on May 19, 1947, Mr. Whalen was a son of the late Clyde J. Sr. and Emma (Alexander) Whalen.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honored to have been a member of the Marine Presidential Detail for President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Following his military career, Mr. Whalen continued in government service as a trooper with the Delaware State Police, where he retired.

He was a life member of the Holloway Terrace Fire Co., and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Mr. Whalen greatly enjoyed participating in and watching all types of sports throughout his life, as well as collecting baseball cards and living at the beach.

Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his beloved family during holiday celebrations and special family gatherings.

Mr. Whalen is survived by two sons, Jesse Michael Whalen and his wife Tammy of Fredericksburg, Va., and Steven Whalen and his wife Mary of Camden-Wyoming; two brothers, Wayne C. Whalen Sr. and his wife Cecilia of New Castle, and Douglas L. Whalen Sr. of New Castle; two sisters, Beverly A. Wright and her husband Ralph of New Castle, and Linda L. Whalen of Milford; and four grandchildren, Jenna Noelle, Leah Michael, Molly Marie and Emily Elizabeth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvyn E. Whalen.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John"s Lutheran School, c/o St. John"s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901.
