DOVER - Clifton Stanley Short, III, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at home with his family.
Mr. Short was born Dec. 17, 1954, in Dover, to Margaret Ann Duncan Short and the late C. Stanley Short, Jr.
He worked as a farmer in his early years, getting his start working with his father. Farming was in his blood and he truly loved it. In 1976, Mr. Short completed a bachelor's degree in Soil and Water Conservation from Delaware State University. Following his graduation, he was employed by the State of Delaware for DNREC Department of Water Resources before becoming a realtor for 25 years at Burns & Ellis Realtors in Dover, retiring in 2009. His passions included waterfowl hunting, spending time at the beach, and rooting for the Chargers. He also enjoyed golfing, but was happiest with his feet in the sand, sunglasses on, getting a tan. He loved his family fiercely, and took pride in being the best Poppop to his two young granddaughters. Always the life of the party, spending time with friends was also very important to him.
Mr. Short is survived by his mother, Margaret "Ann" Short, of Dover; his wife of 35 years, Donna Marie Chalmers Short, of Dover; children, Andrea Ascencio (Juan), of Annapolis, Md., and Kyle Short (Jess), of Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Jim Short (Beth), of Dover; sisters, Diane Soligo (Tony), of Dover and Debbie Hyde, of Waterford, Mich.; and granddaughters, Kara and Kaley Ascencio.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday evening, May 5, 2017. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711, or Bayhealth Foundation, Pharmacy Department, 640 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
