SEAFORD - Clifton Alfonso Armstrong of Seaford departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, after a long illness. He was 85.
He was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., on April 11, 1922, son of the late James and Mahalia (Griffin) Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Lane.
He was educated in Elizabeth City as military policeman.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by one son, Leon Barrett; and his siblings, Ethel, Christina, Louise, Matilda, Marjorie, James Lee and Burris Armstrong.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sigenora Ana Mae Armstrong of Seaford; his children, Mary Williams of Preston, Md., Maggie Armstrong of North Carolina, Charlotte Barrett of Delmar, William Barrett of Baltimore, Cecelia Barrett of Seaford, Sharon Barrett of Seaford, Clifton Armstrong Jr. of Seaford, Carolyn Barrett of Baltimore, and Tammy Gorham of Seaford; a sister, Beulah Wilmer; his brothers, Cleveland, Johnny and Joe; he was also a major part in the raising of two of his grandchildren, Latoya Jenkins and Clifton Armstrong III; 40 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be noon Monday at Union Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Federalsburg, Md., where friends may view one hour prior.
Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Md.
