SMYRNA - Clarence Albert "Junior" O"Neal Jr. of Smyrna died, after a long illness, Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, in his home. He was 79.
Mr. O"Neal was born April 4, 1928, in Earleville, Md., son of the late C. Albert Sr. and Mary Newnam O"Neal.
He was raised in Smyrna and in 1946 joined the Army Air Forces, serving three years.
In 1949, Mr. O"Neal returned to Smyrna and worked for Ennis and Deakyne, and later Playtex in Dover. In 1957, he began his career with Penn Central Railroad as a block operator, retiring in 1990 from Amtrak after a total of 33 years of service.
He enjoyed playing golf and working in his garden.
Mr. O"Neal was a life member of Citizens" Hose Co. of Smyrna and the American Legion Post 14, Smyrna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Pleasanton; and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mabel Clough O"Neal; a stepson, Dudley "Petey" Clough, and his wife, Jenny, of Earleville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Maxine and George Dunning of Clayton, and Peggy Zehring of Dover; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donnie and Barbara O"Neal of Clayton, and Tommy O"Neal of Cecilton, Md.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Legion Ambulance, 111 Glenwood Ave., Smyrna, DE 19977; or to the Citizens" Hose Co., P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
