HARRINGTON - Clarabel Peck Walls passed away on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010. Clarabel was born the daughter of the late Charles L. and Sarah (Clark) Peck, Sr. She was raised in Harrington and most recently resided in Milford. She was an active member of the Harrington High School Alumni, and also a graduate of Beacom College (Goldey Beacom) in Wilmington. She retired after 25 years of service with the office of the State Banking Commissioner, Dover. Clarabel was instrumental in establishing the Greater Harrington Historical Society and Railroad Museum. She believed that it was very important "to preserve our heritage for the generations to come." She spent many enjoyable retirement hours researching and writing about the history of the Harrington area. Among her other interests were "collecting of anything old" and gardening. She and her husband also enjoyed golfing, traveling and swimming with their friends from Shawnee Country Club. When once asked what she considered a major influence in her life, she replied, "Going to church every Sunday. It was the way I was raised and I enjoy it." In addition to her parents, Clarabel was predeceased by one grandson, William J. Walls, III; two brothers, Charles L. Peck, Jr. and Thomas Peck; and two sisters, Charlotte Blades, and Martha Draper. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Jackson Walls Sr.; three daughters and one son, Sharon Walls-Hall, Marilyn (William) Longenecker, Andrea (Richard) Dugger, and son, William J. Walls, Jr. and his wife Cathy, who Clarabel embraced as a fourth daughter. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who gave her many moments of joy. Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington. At the request of the deceased there is no viewing but friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952 or to The Greater Harrington Historical Society, 110 Fleming Street, Harrington, DE 19952. Arr. By McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, Harrington.
