It is with great sadness that Christopher Zimmerman passed away on March 30, 2022, at his home surrounded by his wife Paula and family.
Born on November 12, 1952, in Dover, Delaware, Chris grew up on a potato farm with his parents and two brothers. Chris attended Holy Cross High School and graduated in 1970. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware State University and worked as a Medical Technologist at Kent General Hospital where he received his master's degree from Central Michigan University in Management. He then became the lab director at St. Anthony's Hospital (Rockford, Ill.), the deputy director of the DE Public Health Lab and finally the director of the Science Resource Center for education for the state of Delaware. Outside of his work and home life, he was President of the St. Jones Greenway Association. He was instrumental in helping to develop the Lebanon landing and helped establish the Hunn Property Park for public recreation. He was also a member of the Delaware State Grange & Delaware Nature Society. He participated in the adopt-a-highway program for his home road Plaindealing.
He has enjoyed crabbing, planting trees, making home videos, and traveling with his wife and daughters.
His quick wit and off-set sense of humor always left you thinking and smiling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Dorothy Zimmerman; and his brother, Jon Zimmerman.
Chris is survived by his wife, Paula of 39 years; and daughters, Amanda Clarke (son-in-law Matthew) and Alexandra Adam (son-in-law Vladimir); and two grandchildren, Julia Adam and John Clarke. He is also survived by his brother, William Zimmerman; and sister-in-laws, Jean Zimmerman, Nancy Zimmerman, Patricia Rhodes and Teri Jennie; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 523 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901 on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 4 p.m. (Doors open at 3 p.m. for visitation). Reception follows immediately after the service.
