Christina Thompson, 47
CLAYTON - Christina Thompson passed away on Nov. 4, 2023.
Christy was born in Easton, Maryland on Nov. 30, 1975, the daughter of Randal Lewis, Sr. and Lydia Massey.
Christy was a member of the Class of 1994 at Lake Forest High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wilmington University. Her family remembers that she worked diligently on her college studies, often late into the night, while at the same time operating a day care center for 11 years and raising her sons. She finally prevailed and earned her degree.
Christy worked for many years for the State of Delaware Division of Family Services, first as a case manager and more recently as supervisor of the division's crisis unit in Milford.
Christy lived life to the fullest. Her sons were the true center of her life, but she also reached out to so many other children, both those whose cases she was working on and even other kids in the neighborhood where she and her family lived.
Christy's family and friends recall her absolute dedication to the children whose cases she worked with. Her mother remembers, "on Thanksgiving, she'd get calls from the kids in her cases who had gone home for the holiday and found nothing to eat. She'd get food for them with her own money. She had such a large heart."
Christy would also take many of the children from cases she was managing out shopping, going to great lengths to find them name-brand clothes at bargain prices. She also took great care in handling the legal aspects of their cases, fighting for them like she was an attorney. "She prepared their cases so well. She was an amazing caseworker with kids in really tough circumstances," her mother recalled.
Her friends also remember Christy's passionate commitment to Democratic politics. She was never afraid to stand up for what she believed in, they say.
Christina is survived by her father, Randal of Preston, MD; mother, Lydia of Dover; her husband of 21 years, Gary Thompson of Clayton; children, Ben Omans and his wife Lauren of Milford, Gannon, Garrett and Gage Thompson all of Clayton; brother; Randal Lewis, Jr.; and sister, Angela Lewis.
Funeral services will be held 1PM, Friday, November 10, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A viewing will be held from 11 to 1. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
