DOVER - Cheryl Yvonne (Cordray) Evans of Dover died suddenly Saturday, June 9, 2007, at her home. She was 58.
Cheryl was born Jan. 16, 1949, at Milford Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Robert and Martha Cordray. Cheryl was raised in Houston, until she and her family relocated to Dover in 1963.
She graduated from Dover High School and attended Wesley College"s nursing program until becoming employed at Dean Witter Reynolds" Dover office in 1970 as a sales assistant. While at Dean Witter she obtained her broker"s license and retired in 2003 after 33 years of service.
Cheryl met her husband, Duane Alan Evans, while he was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at the Dover Air Force Base. They were married in 1970 and were happily married for 37 years.
She was a unique and special person. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She enjoyed preparing holiday meals for her family and friends and was very gifted in decorating her home to match the various holiday themes throughout the year. She was especially proud of her annual Fourth of July cookouts for her neighbors and friends at their home adjacent to Mirror Lake in Dover.
Cheryl"s hobbies included raising her beloved dogs, solving crossword puzzles and attending the Harrington State Fair. She was most proud of her flower and herb gardens at her home.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Robert Cordray, on Oct. 19, 1974.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother, Martha Cordray of Dover; her sister, Patricia Sterling and her husband Larry of Wyoming; two sisters-in law and brothers-in law, Connie and Larry Dirks and Karlene and Mark Hoffman.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Friends are invited to attend a viewing from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery in Dover immediately after the services.
