Charles 'Charlie' Talyai, 83

CAMDEN - Charles "Charlie" Talyai of Camden died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in his home. He was 83.

Mr. Talyai was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Milmont Park, Pa., to the late Benjamin and Yolan (Yeager) Talyai.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1982 after 33 years as an acetylene burner in the commercial ship building industry.

Mr. Talyai loved antique cars.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith (Emerson) of Camden; two sons, Charles Talyai of Camden and Steve Talyai of Media, Pa.; a daughter, Karen Yerkes and her husband Lloyd of Houston; a sister, Ester Owens of Secane, Pa.; five grandchildren, David W. Roberts II of Sandy, Utah, Andy Roberts and his wife Dana of Villas, N.J., Susan Roberts of Cape May Courthouse, N.J., and Julia and Rick Talyai, both of Media; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Roberts.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or V.A. Hospital, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805, Attn. Volunteers.
