
Charles S. Sammons, 78
LINCOLN - Charles S. Sammons passed away, Friday, April 1, 2022, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Mr. Sammons was born June 24, 1943, in Dover, Delaware to the late Charles E. Sammons and E. Glendora Hughes Sammons.
He served in the Army National Guard; he was a member of Nanticoke Lenne Lenape Indians of New Jersey. Mr. Sammons worked as a mason for 30 years and caretaker for Ragged Island from 1983 until his health declined in 2008. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the Powwow's and spending quality time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Sammons; son, Jason W. Sammons, Sr.; and brother, Phillip H. Sammons.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie (Victor) McCoy of Burlington, Maine and Kimberly (Nelson) Ortiz of Lincoln; brothers, Edward (Joyce) Sammons, Glendon (Nancy) Sammons of Dover, Robert L. Sammons of Port Richie, Fla., John (Cindy) Hughes of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Tony Hughes of Millsboro; sisters, Linda (Tom) Horan, Marie Durham of Fredrica, and Charlene (Bruce) Miller of Lincoln; grandchildren, Courtney (Jesse) Church, Garret McCoy, Justin, Dylan Sammons, Zachary and Shannah Ortiz, R. Djaun May, Jason Sammons, Jr. and Jay W. Ryan Sammons; great grandchildren, Hunter Warren, Jared and Dane Church, Saniyah May, Jakai, Kylisa, Grayson, and Ayana Butcher Sammons. Special to his heart: Wayne Ridgeway, Serena Hall, Sherry Mast, Jesse Seeney and Matt Ortiz.
Services will be private; the family will be having a memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Seasons Hospice.
