DOVER - On April 4, 2012, God saw fit to stretch forth his hand and call home one of his beautiful flowers, Charlene Z. Payne, into eternal rest. Charlene was born July 12, 1963, to the late Charles B. Payne Sr. and Phame L. Payne of Washington, D.C. Charlene resided in Dover for 27 years and was employed with Dover Federal Credit Union for 25 years. While battling Breast Cancer for six years, Charlene remained actively involved in the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the Cancer Society Relay for Life. Charlene was also known as the "Purple Lady" and had a passion for crocheting, spending time with family and friends, and especially her grandchildren. She touched a lot of people with her smile, outgoing personality, and willingness to help others. Charlene will be greatly missed and is survived by her mother, Phame Payne of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Charon Dagley of Dover, and Charnice Dagley of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Saniya Dagley of Dover, and Evan Williams of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers, Charles Payne Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Roderick Payne of Laurel, Md.; sisters, Ann Washington of Washington, D.C., and Frenchettia Payne of Upper Marlboro, Md.; godson, Stephen Brown of Dover; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. The viewing will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Frontline Ministries in Dover. Home Going Services will follow at 11 a.m. The repast will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Dover. A private interment will be held in King George, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, 165 Commerce Way, Dover, DE 19904.
