CLAYTON - Cecil Frank Simmons of Clayton died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Lee Sr. and Debra Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Blackiston Crossroads, near Clayton, son of the late Phyllis Jackson and Swanie Simmons. He was the third of 11 children.
He attended school in Smyrna.
Mr. Simmons was married to the late Thelma E. Brooks.
At a young age he worked on Elmer Pratt Farm. Later he entered the U.S. Army and became a military police officer and was honorably discharged in September 1947.
He worked at Eastern Malleable Iron. He was later employed as a Smyrna police officer before retiring from Delaware Home and Hospital with more than 30 years of service in 1984.
Mr. Simmons also enjoyed gardening for many years after his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Lee Simmons Sr. of Clayton; a daughter, Dorothy E. Scott of Dover; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia S. Dolley of Smyrna and Alverta S. and James Baynard of Smyrna; a brother, Ralph H. Simmons of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Branden Lee Slaughter, Ronald Lee Simmons Jr., Kameron Lee Simmons, Kim S. Short Jr., Robert Troy Short, Eugene T. Scott Jr., Jermaine N. Scott and Siani Rene Umoh; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
