CRUMPTON - Cecil Curtis Bray went to the Lord peacefully at home on 9 August 2023 in the presence of his family.
Curtis was a kindhearted man who embodied the Christian values he was raised with. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. Born in London, Kentucky on 24 June 1932. He worked a tobacco farm with his uncles as a boy in Kentucky, served in the US Navy during the Korean War and Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a Middletown DE policeman after leaving the military, then worked for Playtex as a security guard before eventually becoming a truck driver of 25 years. Curtis then took over his father's shoe repair business, Brays Shoe Service, of Dover DE. He married Leona Bray, his loving wife of 44 years, on 31 December 1976. Curtis and Leona were regular attendees of the Gospel Concerts at Holiday Park in Goldsboro, MD. They were members of The Delaware Wanderers RV Club.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Leona Bray; sisters, Claire Bray and Frances Stout.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Urian of Crumpton, MD; son, Douglas Long of South Carolina; grandchildren, Amber & Jason, Crystal, Dana, Danielle; and nine great grandchildren.
Services to be held Friday 18 August at 11:00 at the Fellows Funeral Home of Chestertown, MD. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00. Interment at the Delaware Veteran's Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date.
