CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Catherine M. States, 80, of Chestertown, died July 30, 2011, in Chester River Manor, Chestertown. Mrs. States was born on Sept. 1, 1930, in Church Hill, daughter of the late Henry and Ida Mae Walls Kemp. She was a nurses aid for Kitty's Nursing Home in Sudlersville for 25 years, retiring in 1988. During that time she and her husband lived in Barclay and after his death she lived with her children. Catherine enjoyed gardening and cross stitching. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Wesley States in 1988; five brothers; James, Floyd, Irvin, Carlton, and William Kemp; and four sisters, Lula May Ervin, Irene Williams, Ethel Walls, and Ruth Anna Smith. Mrs. States is survived by three children, J. Francis States of Lynch, Roger States (Teresa) of Crumpton, and Darlene Mutolo (Joseph) of Vero Beach, Fla.; a brother, John W. Kemp Sr. of Crumpton; a sister, Dorothy Smith of American Corner; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at 11 a.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com.
