Maucher, 94 LEWES - Catherine Desmond Lee Maucher (Cass), passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24 in Lewes, where she lived for the last two years. She was 94 years old. Catherine Desmond was born in Wilmington, to John J. and Mary A. Desmond of County Cork, Ireland. She and her first husband of 42 years, Maj. Gen. D. Preston Lee raised four children here in Wilmington. After his death in 1979, Catherine married Lawrence Maucher and was fortunate to include his four grown children in her family. Larry Maucher passed away in 1993. Catherine demonstrated artistic talent at a young age which she enjoyed and shared throughout her life. She was a Charter Member of the Blood Bank of Delaware; an original member of the Clarence Fraim Senior Center where she was an avid swimmer, and one of a handful of people to view an Atomic Bomb test in Yucca Flatts, Nevada. In the late 40's, she helped operate Seaford Dairy which she and her husband Pres Lee owned. Along with her sisters, she was part owner of the Delamore Dairy, a longtime feature on Lancaster Avenue, founded by her parents and uncle, Matthew Twomey. Holiday meals and birthdays were usually celebrated at Grandmother's house. Her family home was also the site of many cousin overnights and where all the children and grandchildren learned the love of reading. She was keeper of family memories, songs and sayings such as "Handy as a small pot." Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husbands were her son, Ens. John Elwood Lee; and her sisters, Mary Desmond Pippin of Elkton, Maryland and Margaret Desmond McGonegal of Wilmington. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Joanne Desmond O.S.U. of the Ursuline Academy in Wilmington; children, Maryanne Lee Ennis (David) Lewes, D. Preston Lee (Linda) Lewes, Christine Lee Marrone (Harry) Wilmington; her step-children, Lawrence Maucher, Oregon, Marcia Maucher Cloud (Peter) Wilmington, Karin Maucher Oswald, Lewes, and Nancy Maucher (Marty Kirk) Wilmington; her grandchildren, Eric Ennis (Bethann), Elizabeth Ennis (George Terrell), Sean Ennis, Erin Lee, D. Preston Lee III (Rebecca Turner), Mark Marrone (Lauren), Stephen Marrone (Dana); her step-grandchildren, Michael Cloud ( Arleta ), Jason Cloud, Loren Oswald (Beth ), Miranda Watson (Brian), Kathy Fish (Arthur), Jennifer Maucher, Daniel Sheehan. Catherine's great grandchildren are John-Preston Moorehead, Catherine Grace Moorehead, Kylie Ennis, Juliana Marrone, Benjamin Marrone. The step great-grandchildren are Maxamillian, Oscar and Phillip Cloud, Charlotte and Aiden Fish, Gabrielle and Alexa Watson. Mass of Christian Burial, arranged by Mealey Funeral Home of Wilmington, will be held Friday, July 29th at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets in Wilmington. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. with a viewing immediately preceding at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ursuline Convent, 1104 Pennsylvania in Wilmington., DE 19806. www.mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
