Carroll Charles 'Charlie' Tiemeyer, 88

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Carroll Charles "Charlie" Tiemeyer, of Chestertown, died at his home on Monday, Jan. 1, 2008. He was 88.

Born on Oct. 9, 1919, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frederick Theodore and Marguerite R. Collens Tiemeyer.

He was a graduate of Baltimore City College, with two more years of additional schooling at Johns Hopkins University for Business Economics.

Mr. Tiemeyer was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, based in Jefferson Barracks.

He married Helen Elizabeth Kendall on April 4, 1944.

Mr. Tiemeyer served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 3, 1942, through Dec. 5, 1945, in the European Theatre under General Patch and General Eisenhower.

His baseball career was interrupted by his service to his country as he pitched in the minor and semi-pro league from 1937 until his military service.

Following an honorable discharge, Mr. Tiemeyer returned to baseball and pitched as a semi-pro pitcher until beginning a career as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Baltimore.

Upon his retirement he moved to Chestertown, where he has resided since 1976.

Mr. Tiemeyer was a HAM radio operator, call letters W3RMD and was a previous member of the Anne Arundel Radio Club where he assisted in giving examinations to prospective amateurs.

He was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge and a current member of Chester Lodge 115 A.F. & A.M. in Chestertown.

His wife predeceased him on Oct. 10, 2007.

He is survived by a brother, Robert R. Tiemeyer of Jensen Beach, Fla.; and a niece, Meg Newman of Oldsmar, Fla.

Services will be held privately at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
