DOVER - Carolyn Davis of Dover died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, in her home following a two and a half-year struggle with ovarian cancer. She was 63.
Mrs. Davis was born May 10, 1943, in Maryville, Tenn., daughter of Carl and Hallie Snyder Wilson.
She received her bachelor's degree in Russian history from the University of California, Davis, and a master's degree in library science from the University of California, Berkley.
Before retiring in 2000, Mrs. Davis worked for the state of Delaware as an information specialist at the Department of Education for seven years and as head librarian at Delaware Technical & Community College, Terry Campus for 18 years. She was chosen as Employee of the year in 1989 at Del-Tech and was recognized by a proclamation from the Delaware House of Representatives.
She was concerned that ovarian cancer, "The Silent Cancer" is often overlooked and that more women need to be educated about its symptoms and treatments.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Dover Century Club, the Governors Council for Libraries and the Delaware Association of School Administrators. Mrs. Davis was a delegate to a number of National Library conferences and conventions.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Daniel "Dan" Davis; her parents, Carl and Hallie Snyder Wilson of Knoxville; and her brother, Thomas Wilson of Purcellville, Va.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Highland Memorial Park, Knoxville, Tenn.
Time of remembrance will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 14 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
