Davis Lewis DOVER - Carolyn Ann Davis Lewis, known as Ann since childhood passed away April 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born in Wilmington, on May 28th, 1930. She was the daughter of Harry Boyer and Ruth Stradley Davis. During her life Ann lived in all three Delaware counties at various times. She moved to Dover in 1947 during her senior year and graduated from Dover High School. She met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Arthur S. Lewis. They married in 1953 and moved to Wilmington. Art worked at Aetna Insurance Company and Ann worked at Hercules Inc. in 1955 they started a family which grew to five sons who later all became Eagle Scouts. She was a devoted stay at home mom raising her boys. In 1965 the family moved to Dover, as Art was transferred to open a new office for his company. With Art's success in the insurance industry they were able to travel extensively in the US and the world, attending various insurance conventions. Ann and Art were members of People's Church of Dover where Ann taught Bible Study for many years. She was an active member of the century club of Dover, the Junior Board at Kent General Hospital and as a tour guide at the Governor's Mansion during Old Dover Days. For pleasure she was a member of the Maple Dale Country Club Ladies 9 hole league and an avid bridge player with many circles of friends. In 1985 Ann and Art purchased a vacation home in Rehoboth Beach and entertained constantly for her sons and their extended families. Whether in Dover or at the beach Ann orchestrated and welcomed anyone to all holiday functions that were always large gatherings. Ann will be sorely missed as a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend. She is survived by her devoted husband Art of 61 years; five sons, Arthur Jr. and wife Julie, Jeffrey, Roger and wife Anne, David and wife Janine, and Bradley; eight grandchildren, Arthur III, Eric and wife Amber, Britney, Heather, Carolyn, Rebecca Donahue and husband Rich, Rachel and Virginia; and three great grandchildren, Landen and Haylie Donahue, and Calvin Lewis. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Monday, May 4, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to People's Church in Dover. The family wishes to sincerely thank all of the care givers at Silver Lake Nursing Home and Bay Health.
