Carlton I. Hughes Sr., 49
SEAFORD - Carlton I. Hughes Sr. of Seaford died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 49.
Mr. Hughes was born in Milford and graduated from Seaford Senior High School. He was a member of the champion Blue Jays basketball team.
He worked for DuPont Nylon in Seaford for 27 years.
Mr. Hughes was a jack of all trades but stayed to himself, he was always there, was just a good man, no matter how you look at it. He was your typical hard-working man, stubborn and set in his ways. He was full of joy and musical fun and entertainment in his younger days and a stone cold mechanic, heavy into racecars.
More than anything else, he was a great husband, a loving son and brother, and the best Dad in the world.
Mr. Hughes had a matchless personality and he'll definitely fit in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his father, Macon Gibbs of Milford; his maternal grandparents, Carlton A. Hughes and Eliza Hughes, who raised him; his brother-in-law, Ronald Matthews; and his stepfather, Sylvester L. Kilgo.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy L. (Holley) Hughes of Seaford; a daughter, Carlotta L. Hughes of Frederica; a son, Carlton I. Hughes Jr. of Seaford; four grandchildren, Kadeem D. Hughes of Frederica, Kamyria D. Palmer, A'riyonne N. Palmer and Cardiere Aponte' Hughes; his mother, Cynthia Y. Kilgo of Seaford; his siblings, Thomas and Debbie Hughes of Harbeson, Kevin and Melissa Hughes of Ellendale, Adrian Gibbs of Seaford, Sonya Whitney of Seaford, Kimberly Gibbs of Dover, and Kenny Hughes of Seaford, who was an uncle raised as a brother; his in-laws, Sherwood and Margaret Holley of Dover, Elwood and Sharon Holley of Laurel, Clarence Holley of Seaford, Mary (Holley) Matthews, Patricia and James Holley Nichols, Barbara (Holley) and Edmund White, and Vonette Holley of Seaford and Lynette Holley of Georgia; his maternal in-laws, William and Julia Holley of Seaford; his paternal in-laws, Iris and Jay Cannon of Seaford, Dawn and Timothy Cannon of Baltimore, Angela and Lehman Sylvestor Kilgo Jr. of Seaford, Karen and Arthur Doakes of Bridgeville, Teresa and Alvin Bracey of Seaford and Melissa Smith of Seaford; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. today in Refuge Temple, Seaford, where friends may view from 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Middleford Cemetery, Concord Road, Concord.
