Carl Javan Guy Sr., 76
DOVER - Carl J. Guy Sr., departed this life Monday, October 12, 2009, and entered peacefully into eternal rest. He was 76. "Jap" as he was affectionately known by many, was born May 9, 1933, in Leipsic, to the late Carlton and Ina (Henry) Guy. He received Christ and was a member of Greater Life Christian Church. He worked for over 40 years at Brandywine Construction in New Castle, where he was a foreman and retired in 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Odd Fellows and American Legion Post 14. He loved taking care of his family first and foremost. He also loved and enjoyed life, planting his garden every year, taking care of his lawn, riding his 1967 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and singing and visiting and helping friends. He was an avid hat and gun collector. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Donnie Guy; and a sister, Mary Wright. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth L. Guy of Smryna; three sons, Carl J. Guy Jr. (Angela) of Middletown, Bruce Guy (Connie) of Dover, and Dimitri "Dino" Guy of Smyrna; one stepson, Wayne Gillis (Frieda) of Jacksonville, N.C.; three daughters, Evangelist Beverly Garnett (Tyrone) of Dover, Diane Guy-King of Smyrna, and Pippa (James) Ashley Jr., of Dover; five brothers, Carlton Guy Jr. of New Castle, Raymond Guy (Brenda) of Smyrna, Carlis Guy (Marsha) of Dover, William Guy (Pearl), and Timothy Guy, both of Dover; and six sisters, Geraldine Marsh of Dover, Irene Bibbins of Smyrna, Bonnie Rowe (Robert) of Dover, Levonne Dunning (William) of Lincoln, and Levette Graves (Clyde) of Exmore, Va. He also leaves four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, George Wright, Herman Sullivan (Lilly), William Clifton (Patricia), John Sullivan (Jacqueline); three aunts; one uncle; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2009, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Greater Life Christian Church, 240 Headstart Lane, Camden, where friends may view two hours prior.
