DOVER — Cape Henlopen High is the favorite to regain its spot atop the state’s girls’ lacrosse world.
The unbeaten Vikings (15-0) are the top seed in the 12-team DIAA state tournament bracket that was determined today.
The tourney gets underway with four games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Four Henlopen Conference squads are in the bracket.
On Tuesday, No. 9 Smyrna (12-3) will play a 4 p.m. contest at No. 8 Archmere (11-4). On Wednesday, No. 5 Sussex Academy (11-4) will host No. 12 Odessa (11-4) at 4 p.m.
In Saturday’s quarterfinals, Cape Henlopen will host the winner of the Smyrna-Archmere matchup. That game will be played at noon.
The Vikings had their 13-year streak of state titles snapped last season by Tatnall, which is the No. 2 seed this year..
Also on Saturday, third-seeded Caesar Rodney (12-3) will host the winner of the game between No. 6 Tower Hill (10-5) and No. 11 Sanford (11-6). Saturday’s matchup will be played at a time TBD.
The semifinals are slated for May 21, with games at Caravel and Milford, while the finals will be held on May 23 at Caesar Rodney at 6 p.m.
