DOVER - Bruce L Carlson, passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, in Kent General Hospital. He was 80. He was the son of C. Oscar and Marian (Wolcott) Carlson and was born in Hermitage, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Susan, whom he married on June 16, 1951; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Leslie Carlson of Clayton; beloved grandchildren, Clayton and Madeline; a brother and sister-in-law, Channing and Lila Carlson of Warsaw, N.Y.; nephew, Lyle Carlson of Clayton, and many more nieces and nephews. He served in the Army as a medic from 1955-1957. He then spent much of his career in Agriculture Chemical sales. Being one of the first on the Delmarva Peninsula he started an Agricultural Consulting Firm at the age of 50 and just retired in the Spring of 2008. He served for many years on the Kent Conservation District, was a member of the Delaware Vegetable Growers Association, an Honorary Member of the MD County Extension Agents, and a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau. He was active for many years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and also enjoyed an lifelong dream of obtaining his Commercial Pilots license, which he used to fly his Cessna 177 Cardinal for many years. Bruce mentored many people in all aspects of his career and was always willing to share the knowledge he had. Bruce will always be remembered for his charm and personality in every interaction. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a Memorial service at 8 p.m. in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home on 123 W. Commerce Street in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware Agricultural Museum, 866 N. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901 or the Wyoming United Methodist Church Bldg. Fund, 107 Broad St., Wyoming, DE 19934.
