WYOMING - Bishop Winfield C. Washington, of Wyoming, passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 92.
He was born in Princess Anne, Md., on Nov. 30, 1914, to the late Walter B. Washington and Bessie B. Brittingham.
In 1940, he met and married his wife, Blanche C. Washington.
Mr. Washington was a very hard worker for the Lord and served the Lord to the fullest.
He worked for Delaware State College in the plumbing department for 20 years and retired in July 1977, when at that time the late Dr. Luna Mishoe was the Delaware State College president.
While working, Mr. Washington was also doing his evangelistic work for the Lord.
He was a great spiritual leader, adviser, counselor, husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Clifford Washington, the Rev. Walter Washington and Bishop B.L. Washington; one sister, Ruby A. Washington Ward; and a niece, Mildred Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving devoted and faithful wife of 67 years, Mother Blanche Washington; two daughters, Freda Jackson of Wilmington; a faithful and devoted daughter, Marilyn Parnell of Wyoming; two sons-in-law, Easu Jackson of Wilmington and Milton J. Parnell Jr. of Wyoming; three nieces, Ann Easley and Lillian Marcus of Salisbury, Md., and Denise Washington of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three nephews, Edward J. "Chief" Ward and Curtis L. Washington of Dover and Franklin DeShields of Smyrna; two grandchildren, Sharitha and Ashley, both of Wyoming; one sister-in-law, Anna Washington; and many, many more; and eight great-grandchildren; special thanks to longtime neighbor Mary B. Watson and Deaconess Frances Wilmer; and a host of other relatives, friend and extended church family.
Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Mount Moriah Church, 133 Mispillion St., Harrington, Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Moriah Church, Harrington, where friends may view two hours prior.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery.
Instead of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
