FREDERICA - Billy Joe Griffin Sr., of Frederica, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, at University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Mr. Griffin worked as a crane operator for Burris Foods for over 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR. He loved to attend the NASCAR races at Dover at least once a year, and the races at Richmond. He will be remembered as a laid back and quiet person. He believed in hard work and getting the job done. He was a good father, who will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Alice Griffin. He is survived by his companion of 26 years, Bonnie Bowman of Frederica; son, Billy Joe Griffin Jr. of Frederica; daughter, Dawn Morris of Harrington; two grandchildren, Nick and Brandon; brothers, Alex Griffin of Frankford, Johnny Griffin of Ohio, Robert Griffin of Georgetown, and Tex Griffin of Canterbury; sisters, Shirley Furbush of South Carolina, Doris Greenly of Tennessee, Diane Fithian-Griffin of Maryland, Dorothy Griffin of Lincoln, and Rose Griffin of Milford; two half brothers, Guy-Kent Griffin of Georgetown, and Matthew Griffin of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m., today, July 26, 2011, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
