FELTON - Betty Lou Baker died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Kent General Hospital. Mrs. Baker was born April 20, 1940 in Dover, Delaware to the late Howard Shubrooks and Letha Emerson Shubrooks.
She worked as a CEO for the Dover Federal Credit Union from 1959 till 1967 when she left on maternity leave. Once returning to work she worked for the Delaware State Highway Employee Credit Union later becoming Del-One retiring in 1992. She was a life member of the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary for 44 years and a member of the Avon Club of Felton, the Federation of Women's Club and Harrington Senior Center. Mrs. Baker was very active in fundraising for local charities such as Camp Lenape, and school scholarships. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, poker, going to the casino, cooking, and decorating but especially spending time with her friends and granddaughters.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Watson Baker, Jr.
She is survived by her son, William H. Baker and his wife LuAnn of Milford; grandchildren, Kimberly Edwards and Riley Baker; sister, Ellen E. Cowgill and her husband Charlie of Smyrna; niece, Irene L. Semans of Dover; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Services will be private. The family will hold a virtual funeral service via Facebook Live, which will be accessible on the Torbert Funeral Chapel Facebook Page.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934 or Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952.
