In addition to being a homemaker, she was a bookkeeper for Russum's Apparel Shop, a secretary for State Farm Insurance and an employee for a pharmaceutical company in New Castle.

Betty was also a talented crafter, her specialty being porcelain dolls.

She was the wife of Frederick A. Hoppes, who preceded her in death in 2005, and together they shared 65 years of marriage.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Diane Pratt and her husband Thom of Long Neck, and Linda Loyd of Waycross, Ga.; two grandchildren, Tommy Loyd and his wife Lori of Picayune, Miss., and Brenda Richardson and her husband Ryan of Statesboro, Ga.; her sister, MaryJane Mackes of Peoria, Ariz.; her brother, Bill Bortz of Secaucus, N.J.; her beloved dog, Toby; and she was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandson due in March 2008.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Harrison Senior Living for the hours of comfort and joy shown by their caring staff. She was truly loved.

As per her stated wishes, services will be private for her immediate family.
