Betty Everett Gassner

GALENA, Md. - Berry Everett Gassner, died May 20, 2012, at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, Del. Born April 6, 1929, on a farm outside Millington, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roland and Jane Walmsley Everett. She graduated from Millington High School in 1947 and began working at Choptank Electric in Sudlersville, Md., where she met her husband of 58 years, the late Herman S. Gassner. After staying home to raise her three daughters, Mrs. Gassner attended Chesapeake College and worked part-time as a bookkeeper at several local businesses. She also worked part-time in the Massey Post Office until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Gassner was a long time member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Massey, where she served on the Vestry, the Altar Guild, and was a member of Episcopal Church Women. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a member of the Massey Homemakers Club, and volunteered for the American Red Cross at Chester River Hospital. Mrs. Gassner is survived by three daughters, Debra Dragone (John) of Galena, Laura Logsdon (Michael) of Ellicott City, Md., and Brenda Austin (Buddy) of Eldersburg, Md.; four granddaughters, Allison Tkaczuk (Andrew), Andrea Logsdon, Ashley Austin, and Sarah Logsdon; and a nephew, Ron Swaim. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Swaim Shelton. Friends may call on Friday, May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, in Massey, with a reception immediately following in the adjoining Parish House. Interment will be in Massey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Massey Cemetery Fund, c/o Galena Funeral Home. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com.
