FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Betty Brown Krieger, of Federalsburg, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, Del. She was 84.
She was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in Federalsburg the daughter of the late Elmer Brown and Mattie Towers Brown.
Betty graduated from Federalsburg High School class of 1940 and later graduated from Salisbury Teacher's College, which is now Salisbury University, in 1944.
She was married on Aug. 4, 1950, to William G. "Bill" Krieger. Mr. Krieger preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1999.
She worked for many years for the state of Maryland Department of Social Services and retired in 1983.
Betty was a member of the Maryland Classified Employees, Nanticoke and Federalsburg senior centers, and volunteered for many years at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
She was a lifetime member of the Federalsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5246 auxiliary, the Wonderful World of Widows and the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston.
Betty loved to read, travel, visit antique shops, and most of all to help others which she truly enjoyed. She often said, "If I have helped someone along the way my life has not been in vain."
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Collins.
She is survived by five cousins, Claudell Bowdle of Hurlock, Linda Brown of Denton, Lois O'Bier of Seaford, and Lloyd Poole and Ann Wyatt, both of Federalsburg; and a special niece and her husband, Anne and Herbie Murphy of Federalsburg.
A funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, where friends may call one hour prior.
The Rev. Edwin Thress will officiate.
Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
