DOVER - Betty Brittingham of Dover, formerly of Clayton, died Saturday, March 5, 2022.
Mrs. Brittingham was born August 29, 1927 on a farm between Leipsic and Smyrna. She was the daughter of the late Henry E. and Sarah Scotton Bush.
She attended John Bassett Moore High School. After graduation, she started working in Dover for the State Board of Health in 1946.
In 1947, she and her husband Joe were married and moved to Dover, then to Clayton, and later to their farm in Kenton. She worked at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill for 19 years. She retired with 24 years of service to the State of Delaware.
Mrs. Brittingham loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens, cook, and make homemade ice cream. After her husband's death, she volunteered for Delaware Hospice of Dover for 18 years. She also volunteered for the Blood Bank of Delaware for 18 years.
Mrs. Brittingham was a member of the Delaware Agricultural Museum and the Delaware Farm Bureau. She also attended Asbury United Methodist Church of Smyrna. After moving to Dover, she became a member of the Roby United Methodist Church of Leipsic.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joe Brittingham; her parents, Henry E. and Sarah Bush; three sisters, Mildred E. Reed, Dorothy B. Krueger, and Ruth Ann Ashby; and a brother, Henry S. Bush (Buddy); also four nephews, Jon and Jaq Krueger and Freddie and Scotty Bush.
Mrs. Brittingham is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Faries Funeral Home where friends may call two hours prior. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 and contributions to Roby United Methodist Church, 245 Main Street, Dover, DE 19901.
