Sawyer, Sr., 71 DOVER- Benjamin F. Sawyer, Sr., of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 7, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Ben was born, February 5,1942, in Evinston, Florida; to the Late- James and Doris(Wright) Sawyer. He proudly served in the United States Navy , for over 20 years, retiring in 1979; then worked as a rigger in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Va. for 14 years. Upon relocating to Delaware, he was employed by the City of Dover for over eight years; and then worked in the commissary on the Dover Air Force Base for ten years, before finally retiring. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Dover. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife of 51 years. Lillian(Brown) Sawyer; two daughters, Melissa Sawyer, of Dover; and Benita S. McCrary & her husband- Andre, of Orangeburg,Fla. ; a son, Benjamin F. Sawyer, Jr, and his wife-Phyllis, of Upper Marlboro, Md; two Sisters, Elizabeth and Carol Williams, both of St.Petersburg, Fla..; two brothers, Samuel Sawyer, of St. Petersburg, Fla. and David Sawyer, of Evinston, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Deon P.Sawyer, serving in the United States Coast Guard; Nicole Nolen, of Orangeburg, Fla., Bantie' J. Sawyer, of Upper Marlboro, Md., Benjamin F Sawyer, III, of Portsmouth, Va., Markedrius Lair, of Alexandria, La., Noel A. Taylor, of Orangeburg, Fla., and Garzell A. Hall, of Dover, Del.; two great-grandchildren, Markedrius Lair,Jr. ,and Sean Nolen. A celebration of his life will be held , at noon on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Calvary Baptist Church, 410 Fulton St., Dover, Del.
