DOVER, DE - Barbara Spangler passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, at Kent General Bayhealth Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1938, in Dover, Delaware, to the late Mary Ester Hall, and William J. Short.
Ms. Spangler attended the school in Leipsic then school in Dover. She was an associate at Walmart for many years. She worked at the old Carrol's Sales many Fridays. She was an election worker at the Leipsic Fire House for many years. She loved playing poker. She enjoyed bingo for many years. She was quite the avid baseball player in her youth. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Phillies and the Eagles. She loved spending time with her family. Nothing made her happier than when she would see her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Spangler, Sr.; son, John C. Hatfield; her siblings, Luvia J. Slacum, Marjorie Luff Warr, William F. Short, and Harold W. Short.
Ms. Spangler is survived by her sons, Harold M. Spangler and his wife Mardi of Dover, DE, Paul H. Spangler of Dover, DE, and Samuel Richard Spangler, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Dover, DE; her siblings, Eleanor Fay Taylor, John W. Short, Charles Short, and Mary Ester Brown; and her grandchildren, Michael Spangler, Timothy Spangler, Marina Spangler, Ivan Spangler, and Trevor Spangler; numerous nieces and nephews; dearest friends, Suzanne Bonilla Kiger and her husband Charlie, and Cathy Kurtz.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Friday December 23, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover DE. Friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to American Cancer Society.
