Barbara R. Mannering

TOWNSEND - Barbara R. Mannering, of Townsend, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Born on February 28, 1942, in Elkton, Md, she was the daughter of the late, Floyd and Regina (Redman) Guessford. Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed going out to dinner, socializing, attending the Cecilton fireman's carnival and Delaware State Fair and in her earlier years travelling to Crumpton, Md. on Wednesday's to listen to bluegrass music. Enjoying the simple things in life, Barbara enjoyed collecting costume jewelry and found great pleasure traveling the country roads to watch deer graze in the fields. She touched the hearts of others in many countless ways. She leaves many wonderful memories to her husband of 49 years, Lester Mannering with whom she was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 14, 2012; a son, Leslie Mannering and his wife, Kelly of Smyrna; six sisters, Irene Hopper, Jean Sweetman, Doris Schwatka, Sharon Lum, Deborah Muscarella and Amy Guessford; a brother, Floyd Guessford; and three grandchildren, Kristin, Kyle and Nicholas. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with her family on Tuesday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery.
