VIOLA - Barbara Ann Staats peacefully passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara Ann was born May 22, 1942, the youngest of five children of the late Milbourne and Barbara C. Webb.
Barbara Ann graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1960. She was very active throughout her years as a Caesar Rodney Rider, serving on the student council, playing the flute in the marching band, goalie for the field hockey team, and as a cheerleader.
After retiring from working 35 years as a medical secretary for Dr. Basilio N. Bautista MD Laser & Plastic Surgery Center, she enjoyed working part-time for a few years at Dover Downs Slots and Casino assisting as a host during special events.
Described by many as a little lady with a huge heart, who was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren. Known as "mom" or "Aunt Barbara Ann" her door was always open. She saw the good in everyone and in every situation and encouraged others to do the same. Throughout her life she was extremely selfless, always putting others ahead of herself and expecting nothing in return. She was a simple, caring individual that enjoyed great conversation, a cup of coffee and a good book. An avid animal lover who loved animals of all kinds. She looked forward to spending time in her strawberry patch and making homemade applesauce. She has touched the lives of so many people and even though she is gone her memory will live on in all of our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, C. James "Jimmy" Staats, a daughter Deborah Ann Staats, and a brother, Lawrence C. Webb.
She is survived by her three children, daughter Barbie and her Richard "Porkus" Tatman of Harrington, son Perk Staats of Wyoming, and daughter Jean and her husband Matt Thomas of Marydel; six grandchildren, Ricky Tatman (Erica) of Magnolia, Bill Tatman (Amber) of Denton, Md., Joe Tatman of Connersville, Ind., Summer and Zoe Thomas of Marydel, Cassidy Staats of Wyoming; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hand and Kendall Tatman of Magnolia, and Colby Tatman of Denton, Md.; two brothers and a sister, Charles "Junior" Webb, Tommy Webb, and Blanche Satterfield of Wyoming; numerous nieces and nephews and many others as she lovingly referred to as "one of her kids".
