DOVER - Barbara Ann (Jankowski) Patterson, 72, went to be with God on May 12, 2014. Barbara was born in South Amboy, N.J. but resided in Jackson, N.J. for many years before moving to Delaware. Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late Benjamin Jankowski & Anne Massabrook Jankowski. Barbara is survived by her best friend(s), Patricia Parsons-Beetschen of Dover, and Patricia's family, who loved Barbara as their own; and by her lifelong friend, Sr. Marie Pierson, of Woodbridge, N.J. Barbara had one sibling, a sister, Rita Tice of Manchester, N.J.; nephews, Brian, Kevin & Keith Tice; and many cousins. Barbara taught Physical Education at St. Matthews School in Edison, N.J. for 40 years, where she was admired and revered by faculty & students alike. Barbara will be remembered as a tough, but fair teacher who encouraged many students to further their education after graduation. Barbara had many friends throughout New Jersey & Delaware. She was an avid boater who loved to fish and go crabbing, mostly in the Raritan & Navisink River. Barbara loved and owned horses and birds when she lived in N.J. and, after moving to Delaware, she semi-adopted Patricia's rescue cat, Abby, whom she dearly loved. She liked the "oldies" of country music, a huge Patsy Cline fan; she had a talent for playing the organ & the accordion! She enjoyed playing pool (billiards), swimming and watching NFL Football games; her teams were the Redskins & Eagles. Patricia & Sister Marie Pierson would like to extend many thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Silver Lake Center in Dover, who were always compassionate, gentle and professional. A special thanks to Dawn, April, Marilu & Denise whose presence, bantering and care always brightened Barbara's day. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial donations in Barbara's name be made to St. James' Food Pantry, 148 Grenville St., Woodbridge, NJ 07095 in c/o Sister Marie Pierson. Services will be private.
