DOVER - Avis T. Reese, of Dover, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. She was 83. Mrs. Reese was born May 16, 1928, in Smyrna, the daughter of the late James and Mabel Truax. She retired from the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna after 20 years of service. Prior to that, she was a waitress for several years at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Smyrna. Avis loved reading, doing yard work, and being with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlyn Eugene Reese Sr. in 2002. He was the love of her life, together they were married for 47 years. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter; and three sisters, Myrtle, Margaret, and Elizabeth. She is survived by her son, Butch Reese of Dover and his wife Debbie; her daughter, Bonnie Reese and her partner in life Jill; a sister, Helen; and her wonderful friend and caregiver, Betty Hamilton, who made it possible to have our mother at home with us. Services will be private. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Delaware Hospice and suggests memorial contributions in Avis's memory to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway Dover, DE 19904. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
