Avis M. Morgan

MILFORD - Avis M. Morgan, age 86, of Milford, formerly of Frederica, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the Milford Center after a long illness. Born Oct. 4, 1925, in Milford, the daughter of the late Christian and late Jennifer (Wheatley) Maull. Avis graduated from Felton High School in 1943 and attended Goldey-Beacom School of Business. She retired from the State of Delaware in 1985 after working more than 30 years in the Department of Vital Statistics. She was one of the first employees to utilize computers in her daily work. Avis was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Milford where she gained the distinction of being one of the few female Eucharistic ministers. She was extremely active in the Church, serving on many committees with her husband. She was also a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association and a Life member of the Milford VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post # 6483. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas; sister, Elizabeth; and daughter Dawn. She is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Arthur; son, Richard L. Farley and wife Patricia; step-daughters, Wanda James and husband Jeff, Linda Gober and husband David; two granddaughters whom she adored, Julee Farley and Danielle James; and many nieces and nephews. Avis' family would like to thank the Milford Center staff for the special care she was given. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front Street, Milford, Del., or at St. John's Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford, on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon at St. John's Catholic Church followed by graveside services at Barratt's Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made in Avis's memory to St. John's R.C. Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford, Del.
