Avis Elizabeth Serean

DOVER - Avis Elizabeth Serean of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Dover, passed away August 3, 2013. Born in Spruce, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Sophie Hamrick and widow to Angelo Robert Serean. Avis was a member of the Women's League, Women's Auxiliary of Kent General Hospital, Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church and Women's Altar Guild of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church. Affectionately known as "Mammy", she loved to read, cook, garden and spend time with her family and loved ones. She is survived by her two daughters, Loretta Stutts of Summerville, S.C. and Lorraine DeGiorgi of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Dennis Hamrick of Pa.; three sisters, Janice Fisher and Phyllis Edgell of West Virginia and Beatrice Childs of Virginia. Mrs. Serean is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Stephen DeGiorgi, Michelle Houlihan, Deana DeGiorgi, Robert Stutts, Eliza Jourdain, Andrea DeGiorgi, Christina Floyd, Michael Stutts; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Avis was preceded in death by her siblings, Vilis Hamrick, Arvis Hamrick, Gladys Abbott, Urvis Hamrick, Alice Vincent and Mavis Comegys. Graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 in Princess Ann Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Intrepid USA Healthcare Services Foundation or Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Dover, DE. Online condolences can be sent to www.mcalister-smith.com.
