Audrea "Lynn" Schmid Knable, 76
Audrea "Lynn" Schmid Knable passed away on June 5, 2024, surrounded by family. Lynn was born on August 19, 1947, in Port Chester, New York, to Albert and Lillian Schmid. She grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she enjoyed dancing, ice skating, crafting, and cherished her time with her dog Penny, sailing with her father, and baking with her mother.
In the late 1960s, Lynn moved with her parents to Dover, Del. where she began her educational journey at Wesley College and delighted in time with her nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Wesley with an Associates in Liberal Arts in 1967, she began dedicating her life to family, education, and her community. In 1968, she married her college sweetheart, Gerald Knable. For years, Lynn served her community in many capacities with the EF Exchange, Lamaze coaching, Holy Cross, The Little School, St. John's Early Learning Center, Family Learning Academy, and the Delaware State Fire School. After completing her Bachelor's degree in Occupational Vocational Education from Delaware State University, Lynn became a beloved teacher at John S. Charlton School in the Caesar Rodney School District, was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2012, and retired in 2016.
Outside of work, Lynn found solace in nature and scripture, enjoyed tending to gardens, and spending time with family. Since 1979, Lynn has been a cherished and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lynn remained engaged with Wesley College, participating in alumni activities, and establishing a scholarship in her mother's honor. Lynn's legacy of compassion, dedication, and service will be cherished by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Albert and Lillian, Lynn was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gerald Joseph Knable, and brothers, Allen and Lloyd Schmid.
Lynn is survived by her daughters, Lesley Louder (Darrell) of St Louis, Mo; Elise Knable (Jason Coffin) of Camden, DE; sister, Lois Howell of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Ethan and Caitlyn Louder; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E Lebanon Rd, Dover, DE. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with interment to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life beginning at 1pm at the Disabled American Veterans in Camden, DE following the services.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Lynn's devotion to helping Vocational Education students transition to the community, the Knable Next Step Scholarship Fund has been established. Payments may be sent directly to Caesar Rodney High School, 239 Old North Road, Camden, DE 19934 - Attention Lisa Hale. Please make checks payable to CRHS, and in the memo write Knable Next Step Scholarship Fund.
