DAGSBORO - Indian River High golfer Sarah Lydic was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.

The senior shot a three-under par 68 to win the Henlopen Conference individual title. Lydic then followed it up winning the DIAA girls’state championship with an eight-under par, two-round total of 136.

It was the second state crown for Lydic, who also won the overall state championship as a freshman. The Ocean View resident is going to continue her career at highly regarded Wake Forest.

“Every shot is just accurate,” said Indian River coach Billy Wingate. “She’s just so focused. And she’s very consistent. If she misses a birdie putt, she gets really upset.

“There’s nothing wrong with par but she’s always looking to perform better than that. .... She doesn’t bogey much at all. She’s the best golfer that’s ever come out of our high school, that’s for sure.”
