Athlete of the Week: Brandon Yoder, Dover baseball

DOVER — Dover High baseball player Brandon Yoder was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.

The senior pitched five shutout innings and went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI as the Senators beat Delmarva Christian, 10-0, to stretch their winning streak to nine games in a row.

Yoder also had two hits and scored a run in a 6-2 win over Caravel.

Yoder, who also plays soccer and kicked on the Senators’ football team, went 8-for-13 for the week with five runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. He is batting .362 this season with 14 RBIs and is a perfect eight for eight in stolen-base attempts.

In college, Yoder is planning to play baseball at Salisbury University.

“Brandon had a slow start to the season, but has really picked it up this second half of the year,” said Dover coach Nick Spadafino. “He is a great leader for our program and is a big reason for our late-season success.”
