FELTON - Arthur R. Minner passed away peacefully at Kent General Hospital on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
Mr. Minner was born near Felton on Aug. 14, 1925 to the late Watson and Mabel Minner. He worked for the Department of Transportation for 35 years as a Construction Inspector for roadway projects.
Mr. Minner was a member of the Woodside United Methodist Church. He also served in the Delaware Army National Guard for a number of years
He enjoyed working in his very large 1.5 acre vegetable garden during all of his working years spending many hours there; his lifetime passion for the game of baseball was known by many. He played semi-pro baseball for a team in Henderson, Md. for many of his younger years. They played teams all across Maryland's eastern shore. In his later years he watched all the pro baseball games he could and knew the stats of most all the players.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise on July 15, 2005; brothers, Rawlins, Watson Jr., and Harold.
He is survived by a son, James and daughter-in-law Brenda Minner.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, DE 19943, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arthur's memory can be made to: Woodside UM Church, 1407 Main St., Woodside, DE 19980.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Griswold Home Care and Mr. Minner's aide for two years, Regina Smith, because with her help he was able to stay at his home until God called him to his new home. Also, they would like to thank lifelong family friends Bartos Hrupsa and Bobby Walters along with neighbor Paul Jewel who assisted and checked on him daily and provided necessary transportation for Mr. Minner as he needed.
