Germann, 91
DOVER - Arthur Alexander Germann was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Thursday May 27, 2021, at Kent General Hospital.
Arthur was born April 21, 1930, on a small farm, during the Great Depression, in Carrollton, Missouri to the late Val Germann and Mary H. Regentz Germann.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1971, after 20 years of honorable service. During his service in the Vietnam War, as a Flight Engineer, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor and extraordinary aerial achievement.
While serving in Vietnam, he provided support to the local Vietnamese community by decorating the plane he flew and changing it from a "Caribou" to a "Santabou". The "Santabou" was filled with presents for the local children.
After retiring from the Air Force, he was able to begin another career as a Glazier for a local glass company.
Arthur was a devoted husband and father. He was a superb athlete in high school and college, playing football as a running back and being a Golden Gloves boxing champion.
He enjoyed spending time with family, reading about WWII, driving and reading about fast cars, repairing and refining car engines to run faster, and was an avid baseball and football fan.
He also enjoyed the entertainment his cats/kittens provided; playing and harassing his wife's dog named Diamond. He was always willing to help family and friends, even beyond his means, to get them through difficult times and circumstances. He was a great teacher and listener, always interested in learning about all topics and loved to debate issues to the point of exhaustion (for the debater).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters and two brothers and son Jimmy Foster from Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol Sue Germann of Dover; daughter, Jeanine Givens and her husband Floyd of Dover; sons, Franklin E. Germann of Dover, Lewis A. Germann and his wife Pollyanna of Eufaula, AL, and Albert W. Germann and his wife Karen of Baltimore, MD; Robbie Foster of Georgia; and Brandon Germann of Dover; daughter, Connie Griffith and her husband Tom of Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dover Air Force Base Museum at amcmuseum.org, select Support the Museum, then Donate Today.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
