SOC--US SOCCER-WORLD CUP LEGACY
US Soccer has bold plans for the World Cup legacy
SUMMARY: The last time the United States hosted the World Cup, U.S. Soccer built on the the financial infusion and the public’s excitement to help launch Major League Soccer. Much has changed with the 2026 World Cup. This time the tournament is hosted by three nations, with the United States joined by Mexico and Canada. And the financial windfall will mostly go to FIFA. So what will the World Cup’s legacy be for U.S. soccer’s governing body in the coming years? The non-profit is undertaking ambitious and sprawling projects to boost the game in the United States from the youth ranks to the pros.

FBC--TRADITION GLIMPSE-MASCOTS
College football mascots just as good at keeping their identities secret as firing up a crowd
SUMMARY: Many college mascots are not permitted to reveal their identities until after their days of being a costumed performer have come to an end. Nicole Hurley spent two years as Cocky, the South Carolina Gamecock. She unmasked herself at the school’s commencement ceremony in the spring, rolling into the arena wearing a cap, gown and oversized yellow bird feet. Hurley is a member of an elite fellowship. Ex-mascots. The job is to fire up the crowd, bring a smile to a fan’s face and symbolically represent the university. And anonymity is the name of the game for many of them.

SOC--WCUP DRAW-IRAN
Iran boycotting World Cup draw citing visa restrictions for soccer officials
SUMMARY: Iran has decided to boycott the World Cup draw in Washington next week. The U.S. denied visas to members of the Iranian delegation, according to the state-run IRNA news agency. The draw for the 2026 World Cup will take place on Dec. 5 at the Kennedy Center. Iranian soccer federation spokesman Amir-Mahdi Alavi said officials faced visa obstacles beyond sports considerations. The federation has reached out to FIFA for help, but there’s been no immediate response. President Trump’s administration announced a travel ban in June, affecting citizens from 12 countries, including Iran.

FBN--RAVENS-ANALYSIS
No denying Baltimore’s offensive issues after the Ravens struggle against a weak Bengals defense
SUMMARY: Baltimore’s 32-14 loss to Cincinnati marked the fewest points the Ravens had scored with Lamar Jackson playing since they fell 17-10 in the AFC championship game against Kansas City two seasons ago. After a 1-5 start this year, Baltimore reeled off five straight victories while facing a softer stretch in the schedule. Jackson’s return from a hamstring injury helped, but after a solid performance in Week 9 against Miami, he has not looked like his MVP-caliber self. Over his last four games, Jackson has a passer rating of 69.7. On Thursday, he fumbled twice and was picked off once.

FBC--T25-THE GAME-UPSETS
No. 1 Ohio State hoping No. 15 Michigan does not add to long list of upsets in The Game on Saturday
SUMMARY: The Game has had many upsets, including last year when Michigan stunned Ohio State as nearly 20-point underdogs. The top-ranked Buckeyes don’t want the 15th-ranked Wolverines to add to the list on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In terms of point spreads, last year’s upset was the largest since at least 1995. Michigan’s win in 1969 in coach Bo Schembechler’s debut season against mentor Woody Hayes was perhaps the most significant in the series. The 1973 game was memorable because the top-ranked Buckeyes settled for a famous 10-10 with the Wolverines and it inspired a documentary.

BKN--MAGIC-WAGNER BROTHERS
Wagner brothers are teammates, roommates and best friends living out their NBA dream with the Magic
SUMMARY: Franz Wagner fell in love with basketball as a kid in Germany when he went with his older brother, Moritz, to watch an under-19 game in Berlin. The Wagner brothers hadn’t even thought about playing professionally at that point. Local hoops was their first exposure to the sport and they were hooked. Dirk Nowitzki became their connection to the NBA. Watching documentaries on Dwyane Wade and Kevin Garnett got their attention. Now they’re in their fifth season as teammates on the Orlando Magic.

FBN--ON FOOTBALL-STUMBLING CHIEFS
Time running out on Chiefs, Lions and Ravens after they stumble on Thanksgiving
SUMMARY: The Kansas City Chiefs have run out of room for error. If they’re going to extend the dynasty and reach the AFC championship game for a ninth straight season to have a shot at winning a fourth Super Bowl title with coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they might need to win their last five games — and get help. A 31-28 loss at Dallas on Thursday dropped the Chiefs to 6-6. They’ve already lost to the three 7-4 teams currently sitting in the AFC wild-card spots — Chargers, Jaguars, Bills — and also trail the Texans and Steelers, who are both 6-5.
