WYOMING - After 102 wonderful years, Annie Marie Sullivan crossed over the river to heavens bright shore on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. She was born in the year 1909 in Marshall County, Ky., the youngest daughter of Charles and Laura Stringer. She spent her childhood on the family farm and taking summer trips to Wilmington Delaware to visit her eldest sister Ethel before marrying Elmer Sullivan in the winter of 1928. Life on a farm taught her to be frugal and her frugality was further reinforced by raising a son during the great depression. Elmer and Annie Marie traveled from south Texas to Detroit, Mich., in the late 1930's and early 1940's in search of work keeping Marshall County as a touchstone. The late 40's and early 50's found Annie Marie and Elmer back in Kentucky enjoying family and the fishing on the newly created Kentucky Lake. In the late 1950's they moved to Delaware as their son, James, her parents, and her brothers, Albert, Bradley, and Elbert, and a sister, Ethel, had migrated to Delaware from Kentucky. After moving around between Dover and Harrington Annie Marie and Elmer settled down outside Wyoming where she enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, and dotting over her three grandsons. She had a "green thumb" and could grow a plant from seed or root a cutting and could be found working in her flower beds. Annie Marie was also an accomplished fisherman and enjoyed fishing the numerous ponds and streams in Delaware with Elmer and her grandsons. After 55 years of marriage she lost Elmer to cancer. Annie Marie continued to live at home and remained very independent until she was 100 working the daily crossword puzzles in ink. With the progression of memory loss she switched to word search puzzles. For the past 2 years she resided at State Street Assisted Living Facility in Dover where her agility and independence made her an inspiration to the residents and staff. She lived life on her terms. Annie Marie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ethel, Elsie, Bonnie; three brothers; her husband, Elmer; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Patricia Sullivan; three nieces and two nephews. She is survived by her grandsons, Richie Leon Sullivan and wife Eleanor of Felton, James C. Sullivan Jr. and wife Debbie of Felton, Duane Patrick Sullivan and his wife Jeaneen of Harrington; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Lawrence Fox, Jedediah Lee Sullivan, Katland Marie Sullivan, Justin Nojan Sullivan, Laurel Brook Sullivan, and Jacob Bradley Sullivan. She is also survived by three nieces, Doris Smith of Wallingford, Pa., June Rietdorf of Claymont, and Judy Fischbach of Glendale, Ariz. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and compassion by the staff of State Street Assisted Living Facility, Seasons Hospice, and Senior Helpers. The family is especially grateful to Doris Jarvis and Joyce Kalo-Aikins of Senior Helpers for assisting Annie Marie the past two months. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting flowers or a tree in your yard or contributions to a local hospice.
