Milford - Retired artist, Annie Lee Greulich passed away peacefully at Greenwood Country Rest Home on December 7, 2014. She was born to the late Roland and Agnes Jackson on September 11, 1922 in Cambridge, Md. (last address being Thompsonville, Del.) Annie Lee was a homemaker and had also worked in retail sales, factory work, and helped at the family farm. She was a former member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. As a young wife and mother of a two year old son, she faced trying times during WWII when she received a missing in action telegram in December 1944. Husband PFC George Strahle had been captured in Belgium (Battle of the Bulge). He was a liberated P.O.W. from Stalag IV-B in April 1945. An artist for more than 50 years, Annie has thoroughly enjoyed painting, using various mediums, landscapes, still life (flowers) and lighthouses. She attended many seminars, anxious to try new techniques and art supplies. Favorite art instructors were: Howard Schroder, Jack Lewis, and Willie Crockett. She was a past member of the Rehoboth Art League, Dover Art League, and charter member of the Cape Artist, Lewes. Her paintings are in many homes in the Tri-State area, as well as Sussex County Court House and the Milford Museum. Her expertise in art rewarded her with much recognition and ribbon awards. Annie Lee loved to play cards and board games with family and friends. She looked forward to family gatherings, especially the Christmas parties and Easter egg hunts held at her Mom and Dad's homes. She and husband, Richard enjoyed traveling in the western states and visits with his brother, Bob and family in California. Annie Lee was predeceased by husbands, George Strahle (1961) and Richard A Greulich (2012); and a brother, Roland Jackson II. Survived by son, William A. Strahle and wife Patricia; grandson, Don W. Strahle and wife Susan; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth of Glenn Allen, Va.; sister, Fannie Mae Mills-Wilkins, Milford. Also survived by step-grandchildren, Curt (Wendy) Semans and family of Federalsburg, Md., Lisa (Leroy) Woomer; great-grandson, Mark Hopkins of Preston, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Annie Lee was truly a remarkable and caring lady and will be dearly missed. Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
