Anne Joan (Loughran) McDermott, 84

DOVER - Anne Joan (Loughran) McDermott of Dover died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 84.

Mrs. McDermott was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Loughran.

She grew up in West Manayunk, Pa., and was one of 10 children in a close-knit Irish Catholic family.

Mrs. McDermott was a graduate of St. John the Baptist High School.

She worked for the Pennsylvania Highway Department and raised her family in Ardmore, Pa.

Mrs. McDermott had sparkling blue eyes and loved to laugh. She was kind and gentle. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Martin F. "Nat" McDermott; a brother, Bernard Loughran; and a sister, Mary Wilhere.

She is survived by three children, Anne (McDermott) DeMarie of Dover, Martin McDermott of Washington D.C., and Ellen McDermott of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Kyle DeMarie, Camille McDermott, Caitlin McDermott and Colin McDermott; five sisters, Alice Loughran, Sister Francis Joseph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Josephine Murphy, Lucy Fritz and Delores Tamton, all of Philadelphia; two brothers, Thomas Loughran and Francis Loughran, both of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 in St. John the Baptist Church, Manayunk, Pa.
