SMSgt USAF Ret. DENTON, Md. - Andrew W. Calvello, SMSgt USAF Ret., of Denton, Md., died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at the Hospice of Queen Anne's in Centreville, Md. He was 55. Born in Darby, Pa., Sergeant Calvello was the son of the late John Michael Calvello and Mildred Sarah Egan. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pa., and graduated from West Catholic High School. Sergeant Calvello completed his United States Air Force basic training in 1976. In 1977, he was assigned to the Aerospace Propulsion Branch, 436th Field Maintenance Squadron, Dover Air Force Base in Dover. In 1978, he was promoted to Senior Airman below the zone and then to Staff Sergeant. After eight years of active duty, he transferred to the Air Force Reserve and was assigned to the 512th Field Maintenance Squadron. In 2000, he was promoted to Propulsion Section Supervisor and then in 2008, to Propulsion Flight Chief. During his 35 years, he supported operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, and Provide Hope. Sergeant Calvello is survived by his wife, Margie M. Calvello of Denton; two daughters, Alicia M. Childress of Garnett Valley, Pa., and Madison Calvello of Shawnee, Kan.; two sons, Andrew B. Calvello of Felton, Del., and Jason C. Calvello of Felton, Del.; two stepchildren, Lindsay Knipple of Denton, and Jarrett Cooper of Denton; two brothers, Robert Calvello and John Calvello, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Joanne Himes, Mary Anderson, and Susie Calvello, all of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren, Ashlyn, Zachary, Brooke, Rylie, Noah, and Autumn. A funeral service will be in the Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Ave., Harrington, at noon on Friday, Jan. 20, where friends may call from 9 until 12 before the service. The interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery, near Beulah at 6827 East New Market Road, Hurlock, MD 21643. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Hospice of Queen Anne's, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
